Integration, evaluation and synthesis
The role of the so called “synthesis project" is to coordinate and integrate the new knowledge/data generated in the programme, supplemented with any other data of sufficient quality and relevance that we wish to include in the analysis, to enable a synthesis of knowledge and drawing of overall programme conclusions. Three particular tasks for the synthesis projects are:- Compilation of the MistraPharma database
The database will contain relevant information compiled in a format that enables it to be used in the selection of pharmaceuticals for testing and for evaluation and development of test strategies.
- Overall responsibility for performing the decision-theoretical and economical analyses of wastewater treatment technologies
The overall evaluation of wastewater treatment technologies will integrate a spectrum of costs and benefits associated with the implementation of technologies identified asefficient in removing pharmaceuticals from the wastewater. This will lead to our suggestions for improved technologies to be implemented in present Swedish wastewater treatment plants.
- Overall responsibility for developing new and improved test strategies
Suggestions for improved ecotoxicological tests and test systems will be based on a systematic statistical analysis of the data in the MistraPharma database, and the expert judgments provided by all the projects. This will lead to our suggestions for improvements in the process to identify human pharmaceuticals of concern of the aquatic environment early in drug development, as well as in the regulatory system.
